-World Centric compostable cold cups are made from NatureWorks Ingeo™, which is derived from plants grown in the USA. Even though they are as light and strong as plastic, they fully biodegrade when composted. Best used for beverages below 110F. Should be stored below 110F and away from heat, hot surfaces, and direct sunlight. Instead of using petroleum based plastics which create toxicity and environmental pollution, you can now use our compostable alternatives. World Centric cups are certified compostable by the Biodegradable Products Institute and meet ASTM standards for compostability. Our Ingeo™ products are guaranteed to break down in 2-3 months in industrial facilities. Please check locally, as the facilities are not available in all communities.

In the meantime, in an economy that does produce waste, World Centric’ s disposable food-service products are designed to transform waste into healthy, new soil through composting. Hence, our advice to consumers is familiar: “Reduce, reuse, recycle.” Think hard before buying any single-use disposable product, even compostable ones. When choosing any product first consider how to reduce the amount that you buy and then consider whether the product is something you can reuse again and again. Finally, consider whether the product is something you can recycle when you are done with it. If after all those considerations, you still decide to purchase a single-use disposable product, we encourage you to choose a single-use disposable product that also is compostable. Humans must tread lightly on the planet. Human activity is already stretching the limits of the Earth’s bio-capacity, with disastrous effects. We can choose new ways to live. World Centric compostable products are lighter impact alternatives to everyday plastic and Styrofoam disposables. They use less energy and water to manufacture, and cause less pollution overall than petroleum-based products. They come from renewable resources and waste materials. They save biodiversity and habitats. The list of benefits is almost endless. In addition to providing compostable products, World Centric is taking action in other ways for a better world as well. We strive for fair labor practices in our manufacturing facilities. We donate at least 25% of our profits to charity. We invest in grassroots projects that offset all the carbon emitted by the energy we consumed in our operations.

4 oz Wheat/Bagasse Souffle Cups (Package of 500) World Centric bowls are made from wheatstraw, a leftover agricultural fiber and an annually renewable resource. Lids for Burrito Bowls are made from NatureWorks Ingeo™, a product derived from plants grown in the USA. Microwave and freezer safe, can be used for both hot and cold items Soak proof* No plastic or wax lining Suitable for hot foods up to 220 Fahrenheit Conform to FDA guidelines for food use Gluten-free. Wheatstraw is the remaining plant fiber after the grain (which stores the proteins and allergens) has been removed. *Though these compostable plates are soak proof, hot items will cause the plates to “perspire” and some condensation will form at the bottom. Lids for our plant fiber bowls may fit loosely when hot. Therefore, using the bowls with lids for take out is not recommended for hot liquid foods.

Traditional hot cups are lined with polyethylene, which renders them difficult to recycle and unsuitable for composting. We believe that the best way to protect the world’s forest is to reduce consumption of tree-based products. Technologically, it’s difficult to make something similar to paper cups from alternative fibers. We are currently researching to see if paper cups and bowls can be made from a mix of alternative fibers, recycled fibers, and responsibly managed wood/paper fibers to create a more sustainable product. In the meantime we carry lines that have improved on the standard paper cup. Our traditional white paper cup line is achieved using Elemental Chlorine Free (ECF) paper; paper bleached without using elemental chlorine. We are proud to offer this line in FSC® Certified paper as it helps reinforce our commitment to responsible forestry. The cups in our kraft paper cup line undergo no additional bleaching process and are the natural brown color of the paper itself. Our newer double walled cup line reduces the need for a paper cup sleeve. These double walled cups are also made with Elemental Chlorine Free (ECF) paper.
